25, 2009 - Upcoming Events
Boy, have I been busy! Last week I was in Santa Cruz,
CA, working with my good friends Rick Turner and Barry Pearlman,
both of the Rick Turner Guitar Company. I am now the company's
Ambassador-at-Large, and will work with dealers, professional
artists and customers. I got home late Saturday night, as
was up early on Sunday to prepare for my Father's Day service.
Ever since, I've been focused on Danville
Foodstock.
Yesterday,
Danville Foodstock received a donation from Old National Bank,
to support its free dinner series. In addition, the bank invited
us to take part in a Celebration of Community on July 3. For
the entire day, local businesses will accept food and monetary
donations in support of the Danville Area Food Pantry. If
you're in the area, please stop by for hot dogs, music and
fun. And don't forget to bring some peas, OK?

28, 2009 - Foodstock Dinner, Upcoming Benefit Concert
As you can tell, I'm still rather busy. Let me catch you
up to date.
On
the 17th, I offered service at the Circle of Gratitude and
Love, with the topic being Finding the God Within.
Today I had time to post
to the blog on that same subject. It's not a trasncript
of the service, but does offer many of the same thoughts.
On
the 24th, Danville
Foodstock held its fifth free Sunday dinner. This time
around, we fed two hundred fifty people! In addition, we had
several new volunteers to help, and hosted two news crews
(WAND-TV, WICD-TV), each of which filed reports for both Sunday
evening newscasts, as well as the morning news the following
day. (This on top of a feature story in the News-Gazette the
previous Wednesday.)
This
week we're preparing for Foodstock
Days at Springfest '09. The festival begins next Tuesday
(June 2), and the weekend will focus on gathering food and
monetary donations for the Danville Area Food Pantry. I'll
be there Friday through Sunday, performing solo Friday evening
and Sunday afternoon, and with Deeper Blues on Saturday afternoon.
On
a personal note, today is my daughter's Birthday. I am extremely
proud of her, and have truly enjoyed watching her blossom
into a young woman. Also, yesterday was my mother's Birthday.
I didn't always show it as a child, so I do all I can now
to express my appreciation for all she has done (and still
does!) for me, and how much I love her.
In
peace,
Lane

14, 2009 - Catching Up - A note from Lane
Wow! It's been an extremely busy few months. As are many
others, I've been dealing with the collapse of the economy.
I'm pleased to report that it could be a LOT worse, and I'm
grateful that things are going as well as they are. However,
dealing with all of that has taken most of my time.
Now
that everything has calmed down, I can devote more time to
the web site. Of course, I've still been offering a monthly
service at the Circle of Gratitude and Love Learning Center,
and the Danville
Foodstock Dinner Series continues to build.
Over
the next several days, I will be updating the web site, and
adding more content, including a few new prayers. To those
who have emailed, thank you for your thoughts. It helps to
know that so many find this site useful, even inspirational.
I appreciate your patience.
In
peace,
Lane
March 5, 2009 - Lane Baldwin Featured
by Spears Center
We're very proud to announce that Lane is featured in this
month's issue of the Spears
Center for Servant-Leadership newsletter! Lane and Larry
Spears have been friends for several years, so when Lane began
to refocus on consulting, he naturally called to discuss the
opportunity with Larry. (Lane also sent him a Deeper Blues
CD.)
What
really excited Larry was the way Lane is using servant-leadership
in his music career and with his charity endeavors, bringing
the servant-leader message to new audiences. The time was
right, Larry decided, to feature Lane in his newsletter. The
first half of the feature is an overview of Lane's work; the
second half is the opening to Lane's essay Learning Servant-Leadership
from Native America - Again. This is the essay that will
be included in Larry's upcoming book The Spirit of Servant
Leadership, due this year. Also included is a link to
the entire essay.
A
note from Lane:
I can't
tell you how honored I am to be featured by the Spears Center.
Many thanks to Larry Spears for his continued support and
encouragement. Larry is one of the world's foremost authorities
on, and champions of, servant-leadership. Simply put, there
is no one better to carry the servant-leadership banner.
The
guidance and encouragement Larry has offered over the years
has, and continues to be, deeply appreciated. While he may
not know it, his advice has been crucial to my growth, not
only as a servant-ldear, but also as a person.
I highly
recommend Larry and the Spears Center to anyone wishing
to learn more about the servant-leadership community. And,
again, I'm honored to be featured in his newsletter.

February,
16, 2009 - Second Foodstock Sunday Dinner a Success
Yesterday, Danville
Foodstock held its second monthly Sunday dinner. (The
foundation is the senior sponsor of Foodstock
Charities and it's charter chapter, Danville Foodstock.)
I'm very pleased to report that it went very well, and that
we served almost twice as many dinners as we did the first
time. Including meals delivered to seniors and handicapped
that could not attend in person, we served fifty-one meals,
up from twenty-seven for the first dinner. So our total stands
at seventy-eight meals served.
Now,
that might not seem like a lot until you consider the situation.
First, most of our funding still comes from our own pocket.
Thankfully, this is changing. (More in a moment.) Second,
we have been careful to slowly ramp up the program. Again,
this is, in many ways, still a private program run by three
individuals. We have been careful in our advertising so that
we were not overwhelmed by more mouths than we could feed.
The
good news is that the community is beginning to take an interest
in our work. We received numerous donations yesterday, which
will help fund future dinners. In addition, one dedicated
long-term Tilton resident has provided significant funding
for March's dinner! That's right - an anonymous donor has
offered to assist with funding for next month's spaghetti
dinner. Many thanks to You Know Who You Are!
Before
closing, I'd like to offer our sincere thanks to those who
assisted:
Kiss
Country, KOOL-FM and WDWS radio stations for conducting interviews
in advance of the dinner to help spread the word. We greatly
appreciate our media partners that kindly offer their support.
Duane
for planting (and then removing) the signs that got folks
to the Tilton Lions Club building.
Arlene
for the milk run! (smile)
The
community of the Circle of Gratitude and Love Learning Center.
After their noon service, the entire group came to show support,
offer donations, and generally have a wonderful time!
We
all ended the day feeling very positive about the Foodstock
Sunday Dinner Series. We made new friends and gathered new
supporters. We strengthened bonds among various segments of
our community. And most important of all, we fed more than
fifty people in need.
Next
month, we again hope to double the number of meals we serve.
The March dinner is scheduled for Sunday, the 22nd. Again,
meal time will be from noon till 3 p.m. We will also continue
to offer delivery (or carryout) for seniors and handicapped
individuals who are unable to attend in person. For further
information, please visit Danville Foodstock.
We
are all taught to live a life of service to others. In so
doing, we are told, we find our greatest fulfillment. I can
tell you from personal experience, that knowing you've done
something to ease the suffering of others, to reach out with
a hand of compassion and friendship is to truly live a life
with Spirit!

28, 2009 - Happy Birthday Glenda Ford-Baldwin
Here's a hearty wish for a Very Happy Birthday to Glenda
Ford-Baldwin. Glenda serves as Treasurer, Office Manager,
and Volunteer Coordinator for the foundation, and is instrumental
in making sure everything goes as planned. Of course, husband
Lane Baldwin is in charge of plans for the celebration tonight!
The evening will include a family dinner at one of Glenda's
favorite restaurants, followed by a quiet evening at home,
enjoying the snow and a cup of hot chocolate!
We
very much appreciate Glenda's hard work; we know how important
she is to our success, and we hope you'll join us in wishing
her a wonderful day!
Happy
Birthday Glenda, and may you have many, many more!
January
28, 2009 - Web Site Launches
Greetings, and welcome to Day One! Today we launched our web
site, and begin a new phase in our work. We're very excited
about the coming year and the many opportunities on the horizon.
At present, the web site is a little bare, but we'll be working
hard over the next several weeks to add more information.
We hope your visit here will be the first of many... that
you will join us in striving to live a life with Spirit!
